Sanae Sugano was born in Japan. Her interest in art was awoken for the first time when she studied Japanese calligraphy at school. Moving to Europe renewed her passion for painting and drawing. This motivated her to follow courses at well-known art academies in the UK and Belgium.
Her concept is to emphasise the connection between her experience and an emotional response within a cultural and ethnic context. She transforms her ideas into visual images whilst experimenting with a variety of conventional and unconventional materials.
Her process is to use dry and wet substances such as acrylic paint, inks, pencil, China marker and collage paper. By integrating these materials, as well as scratching the surface, she attempts to produce a unique and engaging image.
